Hamilton Library is hosting a remarkable exhibit offering a unique and profound exploration of Chinese women's history in the U.S. Supreme Court and state supreme courts.

​

Beginning in 1848, Chinese women immigrated to America in search of a better life, personal freedom, and educational opportunities. Over the next 165 years, they faced exclusion laws and relentless discrimination. Despite these challenges, they persevered, fighting for the right to immigrate, live with dignity, receive a public-school education, and marry freely within the American legal system.

Curated by Dr. Chang C. Chen, Herstory 2: The Legal History of Chinese American Women (1912-2020) highlights the extraordinary contributions of ordinary women who, in their quest for justice, not only fought for their own rights but also helped to shape a new future for Chinese American women across the nation.
